God Reveals His Secrets to His Prophets

Class Member Reading: Amos 3; 7; 8; 9; Joel 2; 3; D&C 1:37-38

Additional Reading: Joseph Smith–History 1:41; D&C 1:14-28

Other Reading: The rest of Amos and Joel, especially Amos 4-5

What is the “secret” that God reveals to his prophets? And what do we make of the fact that Amos was called from outside all institutional structure? This episode explores how God speaks to us, the important message of social justice, the end of the world, and individual responsibility.

Jessica and Jeremy provide a substantial and important discussion.

I am so glad that you talked about the balance between the Second Coming and preparing the way of The Lord. Every time I think about that possibility, I am reminded of the verse in 2nd Nephi that teaches, “it is by grace ye are saved, after all ye can do.” If it is true that Christ is waiting on us to do our part, then we must do all we can and recognize that we will be powerless to make everything completely and perfectly right without the grace of Christ coming to set all aright. The implication to this is that we must get on it so we aren’t subject to the curses and judgements stated in Amos.

I’m listening to the podcast right now. You talked about how Amos was a prophet outside of the normal hierarchy and you didn’t know how we could talk about that in the Church. You said if someone did claim to be a prophet of God and have a message for us, that they would be excommunicated. I totally agree. It is happening right now! Denver Snuffer is giving us a message from God and he was excommunicated in Sep. 2013. http://www.scribd.com/doc/239760895/10-Phoenix-Transcript-Preserving-the-Restoration
